This week I began BUS 110. Unexpectedly, it has brought great reflection on my life, which was not what I was expecting from a business class. However, one of things brought to my attention is that to be a great business leader we need to be founded in who we are and why we are doing it. Hard work and honing our skills will pay off. We need to choose a career that we are passionate about and be willing to be good at whatever we do and opportunities will come. There are times thought that we need to take intelligent risks, and all of us will have breakout opportunities and those risks are personal and situational. Most of the time risk, overall is probably not as risky as we think and worry because we have over-calculated the risk.
I am not a risk taker. This class has been eyeopening in helping me see that in order to follow some of my bucket list goals, calculated risk is required. Thinking two steps ahead will help in opening opportunities. Currently, I have been moving along in my education. What I really need to do is to work backwards from my star and find the stepping stones that will lead me along the most effective path recognizing that there will be some failures along the way.
Another idea that stood out to me was how important other people and those relationships are along this path and every job comes down to interacting with people. It made me reflect on my relationship building skills. Are my skills ones of consulting, trust, collaboration with others, or do I let relationships fizzle away because of a lack of nurturing? In my desires to create the first, my hope is to work on building relationships and friendships that are strong ties, where others know they can depend on me.
