Things I have learned from this course
As I signed up for the Professional Studies degree through BYUI I needed one more module to complete for my Bachelors degree. When I looked over the clusters I could take this one appealed to me for some reason. I’m so glad I chose to do the Entrepreneurial cluster and this class. Some of the main things we learned about that stood out to me are, competition and pride, perseverance, taking risks, ethical guardrails, making a difference, putting family first and being grateful. Though all of these principles the ones that stand out to me most are perseverance, ethical guardrails and making time for your family. When we were able to learn from successful entrepreneurs, they said the perseverance is the main thing needed in being one. Many times these leaders would start a company only later to realize it wasn’t going to be successful and they needed to persevere and start again, eventually finding success. It is so important to set ethical guardrails of what we will and will not do. For example, it is important to decide ahead of time to always be honest in dealings with others as well as deciding ahead of time to give to charitable causes that make a difference. Most importantly as we are grateful, we can remember our families and make time for them. It would be really easy with such demands on time that a new business has to neglect those most important to us. In the end of the day however, it doesn’t matter how much success or money we gain if we lose that which is most precious to us. It is important to always make time even if it means that combines involving the family with the business or taking a pay or prestige cut to enable more time in the schedule for them
