What I have learned this week
This week learning about gratitude from President Monson was a highlight. He said, “Let us follow Him. Let us emulate His example. Let us obey His word. By so doing, we give to Him the divine gift of gratitude.” As we are obedient and seek to know the Lords will in our lives we can emulate his example one of the ways we can do this is through gratitude. President Monson also said, “My sincere prayer is that we may, in our individual lives, reflect that marvelous virtue: an attitude of gratitude.” It is not always easy to have an attitude of gratitude. As we have learned this week about entrepreneurs and their successes and failures, this talk gave perspective. During success it is easy to be grateful and excited about the circumstances and prosperity, however failure is more difficult to find a grateful attitude. I can only imagine starting a new business only to have it fail, I would wonder what could there possibly be to be grateful for? Suppose during this time we had the perspective to put our family first and grow in those relationships along the way. Maybe we through the experience were able to learn many new skills and knowledge of an industry we might not otherwise known. Possibly these lessons will be foundational in the next adventure we choose to start. Whatever the circumstance, it seems we always can find things to be grateful for. As we turn to the Savior in our lives the natural consequence is that he gives us perspective. In hard times, he will help us to see the silver lining in situations and that not all is lost, even though it appears so in the moment. The sun is still shining somewhere behind the clouds and one day those foreboding clouds will part again.
