DREAMS...

I think Randy Pausch was able to achieve so many of his childhood dreams, because his dreams were real to him. Even though what he wanted to accomplish was varied, for example creating a roller coaster, testing space programs, and creating computer programs he chose to work on projects he had a love for. Many of the things that he strived to accomplish, he had a love and passion for. His career was not just a job to him where he clocked in and out, he probably thought about his goals and dreams frequently and they were attainable to him. Dreaming is important because it helps us to become more and gives us something we are passionate about to reach for. Although, it is important to have realistic dreams, having big dreams give us a goal to be excited about, something to stretch ourselves.

One of my childhood dreams was to go to college. Although, no one in my family had completed college, I wanted to. After graduating high school and beginning community college, this dream felt too large.  I lacked the skills or help to understand how to be successful. At that time my dream could have been attainable, but wasn't because I didn't have the drive to figure out the resources that would teach me how to be successful. After my children were grown, I still wanted to go back to college and get my Bachelors Degree. One day during a combined 5th Sunday meeting representatives from my stake came to speak about the Pathway Program. I began and after many years of taking a few classes that fit into my schedule, I'm on a successful course to achieve this goal. The Pathway Program made this possible and helped me to learn what it would take to be successful. I can achieve this dream, and I will receive my Bachelors Degree.
